Dealing With Unwanted Pest Infestation in Your Tiny Home

Your home is supposed to be the place where you’ll always feel safe and comfortable, and both of these things can easily be disrupted when you have unwanted “roommates”. By roommates, we mean pests.

It doesn’t matter whether you are sharing your space with cockroaches, ants, rats, or whatever; the truth is that having them under your roof can be extremely nerve-wracking and stressful.

Pest infestation should be taken seriously, since it can cause a variety of different problems, not only to your home, but to your health, too! But don’t fret! There are a couple of things that you can do to keep things under control, and below are some amazing methods that will be listed.

Who’s Invading Your Space?

There’s no point in doing anything else before you take this step. If you want to make sure you are equipped with all the right tools to successfully tackle this, then you first need to figure out who invaded your home in the first place.

Why does this matter so much? Well, that’s because you cannot implement the same strategy on every pest. For instance:

  • Ants simply adore food that is high in sugar, along with the crumbs
  • Termites are excellent hiders, which means that you won’t be able to spot them easily, plus they love eating wood
  • Cockroaches usually love darker places that are very warm, and are also huge fans of leftovers

If you want to be sure you are truly dealing with the pest infestation, then pay attention to things, such as gnaw marks, droppings, or anything else that you may find suspicious, that you haven’t noticed before.

If you’re unsure whether these things are the consequence of the pest intrusion, then you can always take pictures/videos and show them to a pest control professional, or anyone else who has had some experience with these creatures.

Professionals Can Be Of Huge Help, As Well!

Pest infestation is definitely not anything nice or pleasant. In fact, in most cases, it can cause major headaches. As stated previously, it not only impacts your household, but your health as well.

That’s precisely why you should never allow things to escalate. Even after the smallest sign of pest invasion, you must be proactive about it. If you haven’t dealt with these intruders before, then maybe it would be advisable to contact an expert.

They are the ones who can properly assess the current situation and decide what needs to be used to successfully combat it. For example, if raccoons have inhabited your space, then only raccoon pest control is going to be able to help you, since these animals are pretty difficult to get rid of. That’s because they are extremely smart, agile, and above all, can cause serious damage to your property.

The bottom line is that most of these pests can wreak havoc on your house; hence, you need to have someone who’s knowledgeable and experienced enough to determine what treatment plan is most effective. That’s something you, as an amateur, won’t be able to figure out.

Make Sure Your Food Is Properly Stored

As concluded above, the vast majority of these beings adore food. Cockroaches are attracted to sugar and grease, while rats love indulging in fruits. If you want to keep them at bay, then you need to find a place where you can properly store your food.

Things that are generally dry and aren’t too prone to rotting, like flour and sugar, can be put in the containers. On the other hand, foods such as meat, veggies, fruits, and dairy must be kept inside the fridge.

And most importantly, whenever you are done eating, don’t forget to dispose of any food scraps, and be sure all your dishes are cleaned right away; otherwise, you’ll soon notice that you have new “visitors”.

Entry Points Must Be Blocked

If you want pests to steer clear of your home, then you need to find a way to keep them as far as you can. For starters, you should properly inspect your space to see if any entry points need to be sealed off:

  1. If there are any damaged screens, then make sure to fix them
  2. Find something to properly cover your vents and chimneys, if birds and/or rodents are the ones who are causing you problems
  3. Caulk cracks around the windows and walls

Even if you are currently dealing with the pest infestation, if you take this step, you will prevent this event from happening again

How Often Do You Conduct Pest Inspections?

If you ask homeowners, the vast majority of them will tell you that they either have never done this or they do it very rarely. What they fail to realize is that this is crucial if they want to prevent these creatures from entering their homes.

Consequently, you should do it at least two times a year, and mostly focus on areas such as your basement, attic, bathroom, and kitchen, because these are the places pests mostly inhabit. If you notice anything that might be potentially linked with them (particularly around the trash bins), then there’s a chance these beings are inside your property.

There Are Lots Of Tools That You Can Use To Fight Against Them

If you’ve managed to determine what type of pest you’re dealing with, then it’s time to focus on finding the right treatment that’s going to help you get rid of it for good. These are some options at your disposal that are worth considering:

  • Insecticides – These are usually designed to help you eliminate fleas, bedbugs, and termites. Be sure to carefully read and follow the instructions.
  • Baits and traps are intended for cockroaches, rats, and others.
  • Professional treatments are commonly utilized when you’re dealing with a massive infestation, like bedbugs and/or termites.
  • Natural remedies, like essential oils, are a safe alternative against smaller infestations.

Just because you are currently dealing with a pest infestation, it doesn’t mean that it’s the end of the world. As you can see, there are lots of amazing solutions that you can resort to that can make these creatures a thing of the past.
