The Oblique Sauna by VIM is a contemporary interpretation of traditional sauna culture, shaped by clean lines, functional design, and timeless materials. Built in Ashland, Wisconsin, the Oblique reflects the simplicity and precision of midcentury modern architecture. It’s a space designed not just for relaxation, but for lasting use, ease of setup, and thoughtful integration into its surroundings.

With its distinctive angled roofline and compact form, the Oblique stands out without being loud. Its design is practical at its core - the slanted roof isn’t just an aesthetic choice, but a deliberate feature that helps guide steam from the stove toward the benches, improving heat distribution and ensuring a more even, consistent experience inside. That small but important detail speaks to VIM’s approach: design choices that serve a real purpose.

Each unit is built using cross-laminated timber and fabricated with CNC precision, allowing for accurate fits and minimal hardware. The sauna arrives in modular panels that two people can carry and assemble in under four hours. The simplicity of the process opens up placement possibilities, whether the sauna is destined for a backyard, lakeside property, or off-grid setting. No cranes or construction crews are necessary - just thoughtful engineering and efficient design.

Buyers can choose from a range of exterior finishes to match their landscape or style preference. Options include Black Spruce, thermally treated Aspen, Ash, or Pine, and weathering steel cladding like Corten, all selected for durability and natural beauty. These materials give the Oblique a presence that’s both understated and solid, with finishes that weather well and age gracefully over time.

Inside, the space is lined with clear-grade cedar, known for its clean look and subtle scent. The wood stays cool to the touch and adds a warmth that doesn’t rely on lighting or heat alone. Benches are hinged and can be raised out of the way, allowing the sauna to double as a space for hot yoga, stretching, or resistance workouts. This flexibility is part of what makes the Oblique more than just a static structure - it’s a functional, usable environment that adjusts to the user’s needs.

Lighting is handled with restraint. Fiber optic strands and soft LED strips are tucked behind the backrest, giving off a gentle, indirect glow that’s easy on the eyes and maintains the calm atmosphere of the room. The sauna includes either a 9kW Electric IKI Pillar Sauna Heater from Finland or a 6kW HomeCraft Revive Slim from Canada, both reliable and efficient options depending on power needs and space. A WiFi-enabled Uku controller comes standard, so users can set their preferred temperature and schedule from their phone with minimal effort.

The Oblique measures roughly 7 feet wide, 5 feet deep, and 7.5 feet tall. It's compact enough to fit in most outdoor spaces while still feeling comfortable inside. Custom sizing is available upon request, and every build is finalized with the customer before production begins.

VIM is now accepting reservations for its first batch of Oblique Saunas, with delivery starting in October 2025. The initial five units are available at a special pre-launch price of $17,950 - a $6,000 discount from the regular $23,950 price. A $5,000 deposit secures a unit, with the remaining balance depending on selected finishes and delivery costs. Transport charges are passed on at cost, without markup.
